The first widely used sequencing method was developed in 197734. Sanger et al. devised a simple method to read the sequence of nucleotides that make up a DNA sequence known as chain termination sequencing or simply Sanger sequencing (represented in Figure 1.3). Although this method is now mostly obsolete, it established some key concepts in sequencing, some of which are in action in the most modern sequencers.
